Until now, Apple hasn’t put much effort into its Contacts app for the iPhone, making this tool much more difficult to use than its Mac and iCloud counterparts. But now the Contacts app for iOS is a force to be reckoned with. Packed with new features (some hidden), it’s enough to finally beat out all the best-selling third-party contact apps so far.
The Contacts app for iPhone has always been a bare-bones version of what it should be, but with iOS 16 and above, Apple is finally taking advantage of the full power of its own Contacts framework. The last notable feature we’ve seen in the Contacts app before iOS 16 dates back to iOS 10, when Emergency Contacts finally allowed you to break out of Do Not Disturb.
If you haven’t used Apple’s Contacts app on your iPhone for anything other than adding basic contact details, it’s time to dig in, because with all the features listed below, you’ll actually want to use it more. The new features below also work on iPads with iPadOS 16.1 and later. They also work on macOS 13 and later, but many features were already available in previous macOS versions.
1. Merge duplicate contacts
The macOS Contacts app has been able to find and merge duplicate contacts since at least 2005. iOS 16 finally brings it to the iPhone. If there are duplicate entries,[すべての連絡先]at the top of the view[重複が見つかりました]A message is displayed. Tap Show Duplicates to select a contact and view duplicate information. You can merge or ignore data for all your contacts, or manage them individually.
2. Manage your contact list
You can always create and manage your contact list on macOS and iCloud, but that feature is now available with iOS 16 and later. Previously, you could only view lists on your iPhone.
Use the top back button to open the main list view. Here you can create, delete, and rename lists for iCloud, Gmail, and other accounts. You can also add contacts or remove them from each list. 3. Email contact list
Starting with iOS 16, you can use the Mail app to quickly email entire contact groups.the main[リスト]In the view, swipe right on the list and tap[メール]Tapping the button opens a new draft with all the contacts from your list added.Long press on the list and from Quick Actions[全員にメール]You can also select or tap the email button in the list.
4. Message contact list
In case you haven’t already noticed from the previous section, iOS 16+ also lets you send messages to your entire contact list. In the main list view, swipe right on the list and tap the message button to open a new draft with a message with all the contacts from the list added. You can also long-press the list and select “Message to All” from the quick actions, but there’s no option to select from the list itself.
5. Export Contact List
Long press the list in the main list view and tap[エクスポート]to share the list. The usual sharing options will open with choices like AirDrop, Message, Email and Save.at the top of the sheet before sharing.[フィールドのフィルター]to hide contact information you don’t want to include. The resulting file will be a vCard (virtual card) with the extension .vcf (virtual contact file).
6. Share filtered contact cards
Prior to iOS 16, every time you shared an individual contact, all contact details would appear in the resulting vCard.Now at the top of the share sheet[フィルター フィルター]to deselect information you don’t want to share.
7. Drag and Drop Contacts
To more easily add contacts to lists and other apps, iOS 16 and later lets you drag and drop contacts. Press the contacts and then pull away until you see the floating card. Hold the card and use another finger to move it where you want to drop it.
8. Widget contact alerts
The Contacts app widget has been slightly tweaked in iOS 16 and later to indicate if there are unread messages or missed calls from the displayed contact. Tap a contact to see the same information as before. Unread or missed call notifications are cleared when you open an information card.
9. Game Center Contact Link
Game Center isn’t the most convenient gaming service in the world, but if you use it to compete with a friend in supported games, know that the Contacts app adds a link to that person’s Game Center profile. would be delighted to .
With Game Center profile links in your contacts, you don’t have to hunt around the Game Center UI itself to find relevant information. This feature is available in iOS 16.1 and above, so you won’t see it in iOS 16.0.3 and below.
To make a user’s Game Center profile link visible to contacts,[設定]->[Game Center]and[友達による検索を許可]must be enabled.
10. Other contact quick actions
Long-pressing on a contact on iOS 16 and above will display more options in Quick Actions than were available on iOS 15.7.2 and earlier. Previously, it only showed Messages, Calls, Videos, Emails, and Payments (left screenshot below). Now you also see actions to copy, share, make this my card, remove from list and remove contact (right screenshot below).
11. Contact Lock Screen Widget
Starting with iOS 16, lock screen widgets can be added to any lock screen wallpaper. Apple has some widgets for their own apps. But contacts are not one of them. This doesn’t mean you can’t get quick links to your contacts on the lock screen. Simply use third-party apps such as Lock Screen Contact Widgets, Contactify: Lock Screen Widgets, or Cardhop’s Contacts.
Some apps let you create widgets for your entire contact list, while others keep things simple with one contact per widget. Contact method can be phone, FaceTime, email, message, or any other option. If you don’t want to contact a specific person or list, you can also add widgets that link to your favorite contacts.
12. Add Contact Memoji Stickers and Poses
Using Memoji as contact photos is nothing new, but previously there were only 12 ready-made poses, not including custom poses. With iOS 16 and later, Memoji Stickers is contact photo fair game, with three all-new poses dedicated to your contact’s profile photo.
