LOCKHART, TX (Austin Business Journal) — Barbecue is known to be a male-dominated industry — but 24-year-old Chuck Charnichart wants to turn a woman-owned restaurant into Texas barbecue. brought to the capital of
Charnicart, along with Alexis Tovias, Haley Conlin and investor Joanne Irizarry, will open Barbs BQ LLC in Lockhart in late February/early March. The 1,350-square-foot restaurant is located at 102 East He Market Street and has been leased for several years. Charnicart expects it to grow beyond the capacity of about 50 seats by the time the lease ends.
According to Charnicart, the women have endured racism, sexism and harassment, and the journey here has been tumultuous. She hasn’t let the negative parts of her industry deter her — instead, Chaanichart plans to pave the way for a more accepting work environment.
