The victim’s family thought their son’s murder would go unsolved, but one of the two men wanted for murder was arrested in Mexico and charged by federal marshals. Until they find out they’ve been brought back. After years of torment, they feel they’re one step closer to justice.
It’s been almost five years since 20-year-old Angel Ortega was shot and killed at the former Kanya nightclub and National near Fifth Avenue in Milwaukee. Two of her others were injured but survived. A lot has happened since the triple shooting.
“We were all taken away that night,” said Esperanza Ortega, Angel’s sister.

Time has stopped for the Ortega family.
“It feels like it was yesterday,” Esperanza Ortega said. “I feel like I woke up. Hopefully he walks through that door.”

“They don’t understand that they destroyed our family,” said Ernestina Ortega, Angel’s mother.
Ernestina Ortega and her daughter can breathe easier when they learn that Omar Estrada, 30, is in prison. He was captured in Mexico last week and airlifted to Houston, Texas by U.S. Marshals on Friday, June 17. He is currently in prison in Texas awaiting local authorities to take him back to Wisconsin.
Estrada and his co-defendant, Jose Sánchez, have been on the run for years.
“It’s not fair,” said Ernestina Ortega. “They were enjoying life, but my son died.”
Both face three charges for Ortega’s murder and injury to another victim: first degree intentional murder, first degree reckless bodily injury, and first degree reckless safety endangerment. , all as parties to the crime.
Federal marshals said Sanchez was still on the run.
The Ortega family wanted to share a plea for the community.
“If anyone knows where Sanchez is, please step forward,” said Esperanza Ortega. “We couldn’t get out of Milwaukee ourselves. He had help. If someone could come forward and bring us full justice.”
While waiting for Estrada’s criminal proceedings to begin, they finally feel that the time has come.
Esperanza Ortega said, “One down, one more down.” “He will be caught. I know he is. I feel in my heart that he is who he is.”
For security reasons, Milwaukee Police said they have not announced a date for Estrada’s return to Milwaukee.
