Madison, Wisconsin – Inflation has pushed up the prices of basic commodities such as gasoline and groceries. This has forced many to cut leisure activities out of their budgets entirely.
Brian Kluge, owner of Midwest Clay Projects and Studios, says he’s actually seeing the exact opposite.
“Many people make gifts for their loved ones or attend the many craft fairs around town,” Kluge said.

Kluge offers lessons and studio space. Currently, the atelier is full, and the kiln is also full. He even hinted at expanding his business.
“Membership is full. These kilns keep to this number, and if the kiln grows, we would like to increase the number,” said Kluge.
The problem Kluge faced was supplies. His studio is having trouble getting the material it used to get.

“We were able to use locally-made clay and were able to substitute a variety of materials for which glazes were previously unavailable,” Kluge said.
Like other companies, Kluge has had to adapt due to supply chain problems caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
He has no plans to close shop anytime soon and appreciates the community’s support.
