MADISON, Wisconsin (AP) — Stephen Kroll scored 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as Wisconsin continued Madison’s dominance over Penn State with a 63-60 victory over the Nittany Lions on Tuesday night.
Tyler Wall returned to the lineup for Wisconsin (12-5, 4-3), while the Badgers were out three games from the lineup after losing all three games and being injured. Wall scored 10 points and made 3-of-10 shooting, but made up his only 3-point attempt.
Chucky Hepburn scored 13 points in Wisconsin and Conor Esegian scored 10.
Hepburn capped the scoring with two foul shots with seven seconds remaining. Andrew Funk’s third try bounced behind the rim following a timeout at Penn State (12-6, 3-4) and Jordan his Davis secured a long rebound to end it .
Myles Dredd’s 3-pointer with 2:38 left cut the Nittany Lions deficit to 61-60, but Penn State missed the final four-shot attempt and committed a turnover, so they scored again. I failed.
Jalen Pickett had 19 points and 12 rebounds for Penn State. Funk went 3-for-8 from across the arc where he scored 16 and the reserves Dredd scored his 11th.
Tuesday marked the 25th anniversary of the debut of the call center that Wisconsin beat Penn State with a 19-0 record. The Nittany Lions haven’t beaten the Badgers since 1995 at his UW Fieldhouse, former home of the Badgers in Wisconsin.
The Badgers are 23-2 against Penn State in Wisconsin.
Wisconsin defeated Northwestern University, 56-33, in their call center debut on January 17, 1998.
The Nittany Lions will host Nebraska on Saturday. Wisconsin moves northwest on Saturday.
