WISCONSIN — Many have stressed the importance of CPR and AEDs to save lives after Buffalo Bills safety Dumar Hamlin collapsed on the field Monday during a game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
However, many are not accredited.
According to a survey by the American Heart Association, 65% of American adults say they are certified in CPR, but only about 18% have current training.
According to the American Heart Association, the bystander CPR rate is about 20% in Milwaukee County. This means that a person in cardiac arrest in the county has a 1 in 5 chance that someone will provide CPR for her before first responders arrive.
There are several places in the state where you can get certified and learn about CPR. Here are just a handful of the top places offering courses.
Red Cross
The American Red Cross offers CPR classes statewide. Some are online. Some are direct. Others are a combination of the two. In this course, people of all ages learn the latest ways to care for sudden cardiac arrest. After completing the course, you will receive a digital certificate.

The American Heart Association also offers classes statewide for those who want to prepare for medical emergencies. There are 5 different public courses to choose from, including Heartsaver CPR AED and Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED.

YMCA
Many YMCAs offer first aid courses that include CPR. YMCA members are generally cheaper than non-YMCA members.
Here are the locations where we offer courses:
Greater Green Bay YMCA will offer CPR and AED use courses in May. The course includes his one-hour brief lecture on the topic, followed by hands-on practice with a mannequin and AED for participants.

YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee Several safety trainings are also available, including a basic life support course that gives two years of certification. This course is open to professional rescuers and is offered by the American Safety & Health Institute.
Kenosha YMCA There is also a combined adult and pediatric CPR AED First Aid course, with an online portion lasting 3 hours. After completing the online portion, you can participate in an in-person skills session.

Local colleges also offer CPR courses, many through the American Heart Association. Most are open to the public. Here are some statewide.
Western Technical College in La Crosse has classes that are open to the public and are offered as a prerequisite to many health related programs. He has CPR for family and friends, heartsaver AEDs, and basic life assistance for health care providers, and more throughout the year.

UW-Madison We use American Heart Association materials to offer courses through our Campus Police Department. Training is provided monthly at the UW-Madison School of Nursing building. There are fees associated with the course.

Waukesha County Technical College is a regional training center of the American Heart Association that offers courses with certifications valid for two years. The college provides hands-on training in heartsaver CPR, first aid, and more.

North Central Technical College We also offer a number of courses in the Wausau region, including basic life support or CPR training, proficiency testing or refresher courses. We also offer babysitting certification courses.

Northeast Technical College Certification courses include CPR, basic life support, and first aid. Courses are offered at Green Bay, Marinette, Sturgeon Bay, Washington Island and Krivitz.

milwaukee county There is an initiative called Hands-Only CPR Training. We do not offer certification, but it is available free of charge to the public. Offered at sporting events, health fairs and community festivals, it requires a 10-20 minute workout.
