WHEELING, W.Va. – The Wheeling YWCA and Wheeling Heritage Announce Hip Hop: A Black Tie
Incident at the Wheeling Craftsman Center at 1400 Main Street, Wheeling, February 25.
This event celebrates hip hop and the culture associated with it. Wheeling Heritage and his YWCA plan to utilize various forms of art during the event, including visual and performing arts.
YWCA Wheeling’s Director of Cultural Diversity and Community Outreach, Ron Scott Jr., said the event was special to him.
“While our first event showed great potential, restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic robbed us of our chance to deliver the beautiful blend of the elegance of an art gallery opening and the raw creativity of a hip-hop show. We have the opportunity to grow the event the way we want it,” said Scott.
The evening begins at 6pm with a hip-hop art exhibit. This is a juried exhibition that artists can submit to exhibit their hip-hop inspired work.
Screenings of “Please Listen to My Demo” begin at 7pm. The evening ends with a local DJ. DJ Stealth and DJ Phurcat culminate in breakbeats, original samples and a DJ battle showcasing the genre’s vast reach and creativity.
“Partnering with our friends and neighbors has always been a focus here at Wheeling Heritage,” said Scott.
Wheeling Heritage Executive Director Schenerlein said: Art and culture are something to be celebrated and this is going to be a very special night. ”
At this event, “black tie” simply means wearing your most formal attire. The “Black Tie Affair” is often reserved for formal evening events.
Organizers say hip-hop is an art form that has not traditionally been viewed as a genre worthy of such respect, and the event will work to change that.
Wheeling YWCA and Wheeling Heritage are currently soliciting artists’ work for both art exhibitions and video screenings. Visual Her artists must apply by her Friday, February 3rd, but she does not have to complete and deliver art by February 17th.

Artists should keep in mind that this is a public event open to all ages.
Hip Hop: A Black Taffair starts at 6pm. Admission is free for participants. However, we do accept donations. All proceeds go to his YWCA Wheeling.
