WhatsApp has released a native macOS app compatible with Apple Silicon in public beta. Users running Macs with Apple-proprietary chips on macOS 11 Big Sur and later versions can download a test version. Additionally, anyone with an Intel Mac capable of running apps built with Apple Catalyst (the company’s program to port iPadPOS) will also be able to use this native app.
As reported by WABetaInfo, the app was first released for limited testing last July. At the time, users had to get it from his Apple testing platform Testflight. Because of this, only a limited number of people were able to try the app.
Until now, Mac users had to rely on WhatsApp for the web or its web-based WhatsApp client. Neither are ideal in terms of performance or a full-featured experience.
The new native client is still in beta, so you may run into issues. Users can report these bugs by clicking the bug icon in the bottom left corner.

WhatsApp first released a desktop app in 2016, but with Apple’s processor change in 2020, it lacked a native client. In 2021, WhatsApp will start testing multi-device linking to his one account, so users can receive messages even if their phone is not connected to the internet.
