If you’ve ever wanted to meet new friends at the airport before you board your flight, you’re in luck. An interactive startup travel app allows passengers to share their assigned seats with other passengers on the same flight.
According to Flight Mate, which has more than 10,000 followers on Instagram, travelers can find their perfect partner with a customized passenger profile that includes personal information, travel preferences and more. You can download it now from the App Store or Google Play.
Usage
According to the app’s website, the process begins when you book a flight. After downloading the app, passengers can search for flights simply by entering the flight number. Once a flight is found, the passenger can search for other travelers with her profile on the same flight flight her mate and request a seat next to the selected user her profile.
Following that step, the passenger will return to the airline’s website or app and select the seat number that corresponds to the seat number selected in the Flight Mate app. Now all you have to do is update your profile with your seat selection.
According to FlightMate, the app works ideally on airlines that have assigned seats, but passengers can always use “000” as their seat number as a placeholder to indicate they’re on that flight to other flights. You can show it to Mate users. While in transit or waiting at the gate, travelers using the app can also search for his nearby Flight Mate profile to connect with you.
Users can also opt out of sharing photos of themselves on their profile. Other users would welcome a photo, but it’s not required, according to the app, and encourages users to only provide information they feel comfortable providing.
As for the name, I said I don’t even need a Flight Mate.
“Your Flight Mate social media handles must be unique, but they don’t have to include your name. You can set your Flight Mate social media handles however you like. Feel free to be creative.” said the app.
Who is behind the ideas?
Interactive app founder Juan Franco said he’s not afraid to take risks, according to Designli, a mobile app, web, and custom software development company.
“When traveling all the time, little things can make or break your flight, like if the person next to you wants to turn on the overhead light and you want to go to sleep. You start noticing things.” He said. “That’s when I first came up with the idea for Flight Mate. It’s an app that gives you visibility into who’s on your flights and what they tend to do before you book a seat.”
“You can also connect with other frequent flyers and build a travel network. For example, if two people have layovers in the same city, they can meet during those few hours.” Franco explained. “I looked for something like that, but I couldn’t find one, so I decided to make one.”

The founders also mentioned upgrades they’d like to add to the app in the future that could help airlines and other travelers deal with unruly passengers.
“Ultimately, we want to include a security component as well.” He said. “I think it will be an important feature for the app to allow users to flag people who are disrespectful on the plane, or who are frightening or harming them. ”
