If desired, all workers could use ChatGPT in some way to speed up their workflow. From marketing to education, employees across industries are leveraging artificial intelligence bots developed by OpenAI.

We spoke to a number of experts to learn more about how they use ChatGPT and their hopes and concerns about bots. It may be causing panic right now, but some say it will soon be a tool as mundane as Excel.
Pieter Buteneers, Engineering Director for AI and ML at cloud communications platform Sinch, said:

Last month, Wistia’s head of production, Chris Lavigne, conducted his own mini-experiment to see if generative AI could put video producers like himself out of work. Create a video in about 15 minutes using AI tools such as ChatGPT. Based on his one prompt of him asking for a script for a video explaining how to make an apple pie, I created the script in seconds.
“This technology makes it feel like the first time you used iMovie or the first time you got an iPhone,” says Lavigne. “Now this has real uses and will change the whole way the scripting process is handled.”
He describes it as being supportive, especially for tasks like scripting that may be facing writer’s block.
“ChatGPT gives you a great starting point to get from 0 to 1, so you can throw in something,” says Lavigne. “This allows us to work faster. From there, it is up to me as a creative and brand guardian to influence the script and reflect it in my words, brand voice and tone. “
Lavigne also uses it for copy when creating a new website for his wife’s dental office.
“Now we have placeholder text that we can update, but we don’t need Lorem Ipsum anymore,” says Lavigne.
It’s not something he uses every day now, but it does make it easier to tackle some tasks. But his colleagues who work on his YouTube channel for Wistia use it daily to brainstorm catchy titles.
Buteneers says Google is always a useful tool, but it requires some knowledge of what keywords are in the answers you’re looking for. ChatGPT eliminates that entirely. And while it’s hard to narrow down search results on Google, with this new technology you can get as much detail as possible in your prompts and even follow up with things like “Can you say it in 100 words?”
“For search queries, you should always be lucky to have an article covering the case you’re looking for,” Buteneers said. “ChatGPT will give you the answer.”
Joe Bonilla, managing partner and senior media director at public relations firm Relentless Awareness, also uses ChatGPT.
“It’s a tool for moving things forward,” says Bonilla. “It gives us a baseline copy and we can make changes from there.
Focus on quantity over quality
Despite the potential to aid workflow, there seems to be one common rule suggested by the experts we spoke with. Don’t copy and paste what ChatGPT outputs.
“Using something like this can do more harm than good to your brand,” says Lavigne.
Indeed, content creators can use this new technology to spew out social media copy and blog content about their products. But if it’s written by someone who knows the brand and its audience well, it won’t carry the same identity. In these cases, it should be used as a brainstorming tool rather than a final copy.
Lavigne said: “Brands are more important than ever. Establishing yourself as a trusted person curating the right information will be more important than ever.”
Can ChatGPT help level the playing field for job seekers?
“If ChatGPT is helping me, a seasoned video professional, go from 0 to 1, that’s a big win,” said Lavinge.
Imagine how it could help someone looking to jump into a new field or even a young professional just entering the workforce. You can use ChatGPT to create a first draft of your email template, thank you for the interview, or ask why you haven’t heard back yet.
Sruti Bharat is the founder of FutureMap, a company focused on first-generation, low-income students and facilitating their path from college to career. She says ChatGPT is a game-changing opportunity for people looking for work.
“I have attended both private and public universities, and private universities have a lot of high-tech resources for interview guidance, virtual AI, and resume reviews,” said Bharat. “Public universities and community colleges may not have access to these tools and should not be knowledge gated.”
She encourages her students to use ChatGPT, which is free and easy to use, to write their resumes. For example, you can post job postings on ChatGPT and encourage people to get keywords. This allows the job seeker to include it in a resume or cover her letter.
“It eliminates repetitive logistical questions about new and simple tasks for students that are repetitive for career coaches,” says Bharat. .”

Disadvantages to be aware of
ChatGPT is clearly a powerful tool. However, there are drawbacks that users should be aware of.
A local newspaper in upstate New York conducted an experiment with ChatGPT to see what ChatGPT knew about the current state and future of local news. They asked, “Tell me something interesting about Westchester or Putnam counties in New York.” In a brief description of the county, Yonkers of Westchester County incorrectly stated that he was the fourth most populous city in the state.
The editors knew the information was wrong thanks to their knowledge of the area, but someone doesn’t always understand such things.
“You can’t look at the information and see that it’s grammatically incorrect or understand that it’s incorrect information,” says Buteneers. “It’s grammatically perfect and will sound really convincing unless you really know what you’re talking about. That’s the biggest hurdle.”
OpenAI’s technology is also only trained on data through the end of 2021. So far, we have no idea about 2022 or 2023. Also, there are no sources or links to references to verify the accuracy of the information.
“You have to be very careful about what you ask,” says Buteneers.
