BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) – The West Baton Rouge Chamber has been working for 10 years for what you want to see in your parish. Some people say they want more.
Damon Vlahos has lived in Port Allen for at least 35 years. He loves this small town, but he wishes it was closer.
“If you want good things, you have to travel. If you want nice sit-down restaurants, you have to cross bridges.” No, there’s still a lot of fast food out there,” explains Vlahos.
Vlahos isn’t the only one who’s thought about it. West Baton Rouge Chamber of Commerce leaders believe that winning more business will help the economy grow.
“Many of our parishioners and residents said, ‘We want nightlife here.’ WBR Executive Director Anna Johnson said: Chamber of Commerce.
However, one concern for some people living in Port Allen is that overpopulation could result in the loss of a close-knit community.
Gary Hubble, a member of the Port Allen Council, said, “Generally, I think we all fear change at some point until we see the end result and either get used to it or welcome it. I will.”
Hubble says it’s all about the location and scale of the new business.
“I think any big box store will do. I think that would be great. There is,” adds Hubble.
A member of the Port Allen Council is in talks with a local business owner tonight about setting up a microbrewery at his facility.
