Wausau, Wisconsin — Wausau officials said the city’s water is now safe to use and “PFAS-free.”

This plant uses a resin that attracts PFAS through its filtration system. However, the current system is temporary. The city says it costs about $800,000 a year to maintain. The city said it will install a granular activated carbon system within the next 18 to 24 months to keep the water clean.
“The new treatment facility should be celebrated within the community as it will provide users with high quality drinking water. It will improve internal disinfection, increase redundancy and safety, and serve users for generations to come,” city officials said in a statement.
The city has also published a list of answers to frequently asked questions from residents.
