WISCONSIN – Wisconsin-wide has experienced its first extreme low temperatures of the season, so many may be looking for somewhere warm to sleep.
Several cities in the state have opened warming stations to keep vulnerable residents safe. Services vary, but recreation centers, libraries, and churches are commonly used as warming stations during the day.
Here is a list of some warming shelters in the state.
milwaukee
There are three 24-hour warming centers in the city.
- tear repairer, 1335 W. Vliet St. Operates as a warming room during the day and as a nighttime warming shelter when temperatures drop below 20 degrees.Hours are 7pm to 7am
- Saint Benedict of the Moors, and 924 W. State St. It also opens as a warming shelter when temperatures drop below freezing.
- Located at 1220 West Vliet Street, the Marcia P. Coggs Building is open on holiday weekends, a joint effort of the County of Milwaukee and the Southeastern Chapter of the American Red Cross, due to the cold weather.
