Warm winter brings the family outside for winter vacation

Ashwaubenon, Wisconsin — Green Bay is an annual winter holiday destination for Melissa Shah and her family.

I waited a little longer this year.

“We were supposed to be here last weekend, but we thought, ‘It’s too cold,'” said a resident of Elmhurst, Illinois.

Highs were around zero last weekend, with wind chill dropping to minus 40 degrees in parts of the state.

But milder winters have given way to that arctic air, bringing people back to places like Titletown.

This is where Shah used to ice skate on Wednesdays.

“We usually check the weather in advance to find the best time to ice skate in our 20s and 30s. Then we travel here every winter to do this,” she says. said right after lacing up his skates. “It’s fun, the kids love it, and it’s a great winter break for us. It’s something to get out and do here in the half sun.”

The Titletown staff wanted to enjoy skating and tubing after a cold spell.

Titletown event coordinator Jessica Dickhut said: “But I think the current rise in temperatures is really pushing a lot of people out.”

Nicole McCormick of Sherwood, Wisconsin, said children burn off their stored energy at Tubing Hill.

“They need it. They definitely need it. They’re stuck at home, so it’s time to get out,” she said.

Acceptable outdoor weather is also suitable for adults.

“I love being outside, so it’s a nice change from being stuck at home, especially when I work from home. Sometimes I have to go outside,” McCormick said. “It’s great to see them enjoying the fire here. The kids are having fun. That’s all that matters.”

The calm air is expected to continue until the beginning of the year. A big change from a week ago.

“It’s been really hard. It reminded me of the pandemic, trying to find something I could do indoors. A movie, a restaurant, or something, but there really wasn’t much to do, especially during the holidays,” says Wisconsin. Said Shah, who grew up in Brookfield.
