While many lakes are frozen over, store co-owner Mike Smith said the thickness of the ice this year was less predictable.
“We had more than 50 days of rain in the 40s, and the ice deteriorates over time, especially on warm nights,” says Smith.
Smith has a loyal customer base, but questionable ice conditions have led to a small drop in business this winter, he said.
“This time last year, the ice was good all January, so a lot of people were out. , many of the veterans are on board,” Smith said.
