His goal for many years was to promote his Vanta navigation app, but now he’s riding a whole new wave of success.
The success is all thanks to a viral TikTok post by his daughter Megan. This post is now circling millions of phone screens and hearts.
The few seconds of the video were a candid snapshot of a father chasing a dream that creates the dream itself.
“It’s a completely different playing field than last weekend,” said Jeff Faulk, CEO of navigation app Argo.
He spent years trying to crack the code to attract new users to the app he created years ago.
“It’s like Waze, Yelp, Facebook, or any social platform all rolled into one, but very boat-centric,” Foulk shared.
The app was a great idea he worked hard on hoping it would go viral, but his biggest cheerleader stepped in from the sidelines and hit a home run.
“My daughter posted that video and the overwhelming support we got was incredible.
“He didn’t know I took the video. I showed it to him at 100 likes and he was fine.
That number exploded, with thousands of people sharing and commenting on the video, while millions watched it.
“It was views, but when it started converting to downloads and emails, it wasn’t millions, it was millions,” Foulk explained.
At that time, the CEO had a good problem.
“The app couldn’t handle the number of downloads and people. We weren’t ready for Tic Tok to send millions of people… millions of people at once,” he said.
With 17.5 million views, the app climbed to #1 in the Apple App Store navigation, doubled in downloads, and received over 15,000 five-star reviews in just four days.
Megan Faulk said, “I hope my dad can take a moment and be really proud of himself.
He’s seizing the moment right now, and it’s a spark to what he hopes will boost the movement to ship out into the world from here in Maryland.
“I never thought I would get all the boaters, but I would be super excited to have all the boaters in this marina using the Argo app,” he said. .
Captain Falk and his family hope that more people will download the free app and try the premium version, which offers enhanced functionality for $20 a year.
