Retro Pod, a viral app that mimics the look and feel of listening to music on an iPod, has been removed from the App Store.
The app has been available for download since October 2022, but it really picked up steam in early January when it started making rounds on TikTok. A user posted a video praising the Retro Pod’s “sweet nostalgia” and its ability to bring back the tactile elements that use the iPod’s click wheel.
Tributes: Technologies that died in 2022
Retro Pod grew in popularity and was downloaded nearly 500,000 times, but by the second week of January, The Verge reported it was dead. His TikTok on Retro Pod, as early as Jan. 7, he received a comment that he could no longer find the app on the App Store.

Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Mashable. However, the reason Retro Pod was removed from the App Store appears to be Apple’s App Store Review Guidelines. These guidelines have strict rules against copying other apps and his Apple products. In 2019, a Retro Pod-like app called Rewound suffered the same fate for violating these guidelines.
The Retro Pod is the latest in a series of attempts to revive early-2000s tech like digital cameras and flip phones, as tech nostalgia continues to thrive in today’s digital space like TikTok. It proves that. The app may have disappeared from the App Store, but the driving force behind it is still there: the desire to make the old new again. Additionally, if you want to scroll your iPod, you can find it in browser alternatives such as ipod.js, which syncs with Spotify.
