Waukesha, Wisconsin — Three men are in custody after a car chase caused them to lose control and crash into the side of an apartment complex in Waukesha.
Waukesha Police said they initiated a traffic stop near Flame Park around 1:11 am on Sunday, January 15.
However, the vehicle did not stop immediately, instead attempting to evade officers, driving recklessly through neighborhoods north of E. Moreland Boulevard and south of Manhattan.
At that time, police said the vehicle had returned to Moreland Boulevard and attempted to navigate a turn on White Rock Avenue.
But then the vehicle’s driver lost control and crashed into the parking lot and storage area of the Spring City Crossing apartment complex. The vehicle caught fire when it hit a building.
Waukesha officers and deputies attempted to put out the fire while other officers rescued the suspect from the vehicle. A police officer lacerated his arm while removing the suspect from the vehicle.
The Waukesha City Fire Department responded to the scene and tended to the injured suspect, fire and building
Police said the car was stolen from Chicago. They arrested his three male suspects, ages 18, 21 and 30. The suspect does not live in the city of Waukesha and all three were taken to a local hospital after the incident.
Their names will not be released until they are medically confirmed, according to Waukesha Police.
During the incident, police evacuated the building due to smoke. No occupants were injured and the damage from the vehicle fire was moderate and non-structural, so they were allowed to return to the apartment. Police said the damage was about $200,000.
