(WKBN) – Austintown’s Ice House Inn will host a New Year’s Eve party to celebrate 2023 at midnight, while new kiosks will be operational and sports betting will be available.
The Ice House Inn is among 45 bars and restaurants around Youngstown and Hollywood Gaming with sports betting.
Hollywood Gaming’s sports betting area in Austintown is covered with a football field lined with artificial turf, ready for Sunday morning’s first wager.
“Our machine has been tested. It has been approved by the Ohio Casino Regulatory Commission. The Ohio Lottery Commission is involved. We will start at 12:01 am and start betting.” said Kevin Brogan, director of marketing at Hollywood Gaming.
The betting windows overlook Hollywood Gaming’s race track, but what Brogan wanted to show off was the construction work going on nearby.
“This is going to be the place to watch sports and bet in Mahoning County,” Brogan said.
The main feature is a 28x8ft double panel video screen with a frame up. The plan is to have the viewing area open by the Super Bowl. It has a capacity of 200 people and attracts young people.
“That’s what we’re looking for. All the data shows that sports betting skews men between the ages of 21 and 45. We don’t walk our floors much right now.” said Brogan.
Boardmans Lanai Lounge, 15 miles southeast of Hollywood Gaming, features two sports betting kiosks. On New Year’s Day, you can place bets as long as you have a license to prove you are 21 years of age or older. Betting is easy.
“Anyone who can come in and order a sandwich should be able to easily place a bet,” said attorney Ricky Volante.
Volante is the lead attorney for Poland-based betIGG, which has installed kiosks in 45 bars and restaurants around Youngstown. He hopes he will be close to 200 by midsummer.
“It’s been a learning process, but overall, we’re one of two owners going live on January 1st, so I think we’ve done a pretty good job with it,” Volante said. said.
Hollywood Gaming doesn’t have big plans for their first bet. The first person to appear will place it.
The Lanai Lounge will not be open after midnight, but will host an all-day NFL game beginning at 11:00 AM on New Year’s Day.
