rochelles Touring dance classes have been running for the past seven years, but starting this month his Xpress VIBE lessons are based at Austin’s Cherrywood Center. His assistant Rochelle, an alumnus and former teacher of his UT in Dance and Social Justice, plans to expand the classes to different experience levels, but classes are currently catering to beginners.
“I am for those who have lost their talent and their passion,” said Rochelle. “(I) don’t care if someone is new to me or lost in my playfulness and innocence. I want to be that breath of fresh air.
Fellow UT alumnus Joseph Mayan met him during Rochelle’s time as a teaching assistant for an introductory hip-hop class that Mayan impulsively enrolled in as a college student.
“His approach is philosophical and mixed with passionate teaching,” said Mayang. “He focuses on enabling each student to express how they move through dance.”
Rochelle also puts a lot of effort into her Mom and Me classes, motivating mothers to turn choreography into bonding opportunities. Rochelle’s 5-year-old daughter, Addelynn, has been called his “little partner” and dances alongside her father in various classes.
Despite earning the title of Adeline’s father and Madeline Rochelle’s husband, he has never acted as Madeline’s boyfriend. We met at Rochelle’s workshop shortly after.
“I pulled her up and soaked her back — It wasn’t planned at all,” said Rochelle. “We felt like we were moving towards each other.”

Moments like his videos with Mr. Wiggles, which received nearly 150,000 views, speak to his talent, but his teachings inspired dancers like Marketing Jr. Gabriel Ochoa to connect with their bodies. . Ochoa said Rochelle’s guidance took him out of the awkwardness of finding his rhythm.
“He lifts everyone up,” said Ochoa. “He always has great energy. He’s infectious enough to feel comfortable in his own body.”
According to Rochelle, mind-body harmony not only improves your dance skills, but it also helps you overcome life’s twists and turns.
“We experience the most friction when we don’t know our rhythm,” says Rochelle. “Dance gives you a beat, and if you can catch that beat, you’ll be fine. It’s all about trusting.”
