Milwaukee — A U.S. Postal Service mailman working in Milwaukee was shot dead Friday night. The worker was identified by the USPS as Aundre Cross, who is 44 years old.
Milwaukee Police said they responded to reports of injuries in the 5000 block on North 65th Street at approximately 5:59 pm on Dec. 9.
When they arrived, police found a male victim with a gunshot wound. That victim has now been identified as Cross. The Milwaukee Fire Department declared him dead at the scene.
Cross has worked for the USPS for over 18 years.
In a statement, the MPD said, “We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and to the USPS for the loss of our members.”
Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson said on Twitter that the crime was “disturbing.”
“The shooting death of a Milwaukee postal worker is devastating. My thoughts are with the victim’s family and colleagues,” Johnson said.

Monday, Milwaukee Aldo. Mark Chambers Jr. also responded to the incident.
“Postman Andre Cross was a friendly, likable, trustworthy and hardworking civil servant who was off the job on Friday (9 December 2022) when he was shot in a yard near N. 65. I was about toth and W. Lancaster 2nd Alderman’s District,” Chambers said in a statement. “My prayers are with his family, neighbors, colleagues and friends. It rocked a tight-knit group.”
Police say they are investigating the circumstances leading up to the incident and are looking for a suspect. MPD is leading the investigation with support from the USPS and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The U.S. Postal Service responded to the incident via email, confirming it was working with the MPD and stating, “The safety and security of postal workers is the U.S. Postal Service’s top priority.”
They also offer rewards of up to $50,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of suspects. In a release, the inspection service said the suspect’s vehicle was a silver Audi Q5 SUV with tinted windows, and that the suspect was armed and should be considered dangerous.
