CAPITOLA — The US Small Business Administration and the California Center for Small Business Development opened the SBA Business Recovery Center in Capitola on Friday. The center will provide a range of services to businesses affected by the recent winter storms.
“Due to the severe physical damage and economic loss inflicted on California businesses, we want to provide all available services to help them get back on their feet,” said the Small Business Association. Director Tanya N. Garfield said in a press release, “The center provides a one-stop location for businesses to access a range of professional help.”
The center is located in the first floor community room of Capitola City Hall and is open Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM.
In addition to the Business Recovery Center, Santa Cruz County announced Friday that federal officials will open a disaster recovery center in Watsonville’s Ramsay Park and another in the San Lorenzo Valley. The Ramsay Park Disaster Recovery Center includes staff from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the California Department of Emergency Services, Santa Cruz County, the City of Watsonville, and various state, local, and community agencies that include disaster recovery as part of their mission. An SBA representative will meet with business owners at the Business Recovery Center to explain the ins and outs of SBA’s disaster loans and assist them in completing e-loan applications.
Businesses and nonprofits of all sizes can borrow up to $2 million to repair or replace damaged or destroyed real estate, machinery and equipment, inventory, and other business assets. These loans cover losses not fully covered by insurance or other recoveries.
According to Brandon Small, director of the Santa Cruz Small Business Development Center, Business Advisors are designed to help small business owners rebuild their businesses, overcome the impact of disasters, and plan for the future. We can provide assistance to our clients on a variety of issues.
