URBANA, Illinois (AP) — The University of Illinois has removed COVID-19 vaccination and testing requirements for all students and employees, system president Tim Killeen announced.
“However, we strongly recommend staying up to date with the latest vaccines or boosters available as a barrier to serious illness,” Killeen said, The News Gazette reported Friday.
Students and employees not vaccinated on college campuses were required to maintain regular testing schedules.
All students and staff had to receive primary vaccinations after the vaccines came out in the Fall 2021 semester. Since then, at his campus in Urbana-Champaign he has maintained a 95% vaccination rate.
“Testing continues to be a valuable tool for COVID-19 containment, and while the University of Illinois system no longer requires routine testing of unvaccinated people, it should be tested if they have symptoms or have been exposed to the virus. If so, we encourage you to take advantage of the free tests that are still available,” said Killeen.
Although requirements vary from campus to campus, Killeen encouraged everyone to continue wearing masks indoors. Urbana Her Champaign Her campus doesn’t require you to cover your face.
