At Galway University, a new initiative to develop the next generation of women entrepreneurs is in full swing and recruitment is underway.
IdeasLab, the home of entrepreneurship and innovation at the University of Galway, is actively recruiting for its new CreateHer program.
The program aims to further develop a women-focused initiative that focuses on creativity as a core tenet.
Through a consultative process, IdeasLab has designed a program that is reviewed by an expert advisory group to ensure the initiative is coherent, fit for purpose, and student-centered.
The CreateHER Advisory Group is co-chaired by IdeasLab’s Dr. Natalie Walsh and Jenny Mullery and is attended by many successful women entrepreneurs, researchers and students, many of whom are graduates of the University of Galway.
“CreateHER is designed to provide a unique environment for female students to develop and nurture their entrepreneurial selves,” said Dr. Walsh.
“Our student entrepreneurs know they learn best from each other and from their fellow female entrepreneurs around the world.”
Based on this, we have built a program based on “experience sharing, hands-on workshops and mentorship” to develop future female entrepreneurs.
“We are thrilled to embark on our first hires later this month and share our future journey and successes,” she added.
The advisory group includes Dr. Ellen Roche, Associate Professor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Lisa Regan, MD, Lisa Regan Public Relations, and Helen Breen, Ph.D., who manages early-stage investments at the Atlantic Bridge Venture Capital Fund.
Elaine Mannion is General Manager of Abbey Theatre, Carol Joyce and Anna Hosty are co-owners of Yourells Hair Group and founders of The Hair Vitamin Company, and Dr. Vanessa Creaven is co-founder and CEO of Spotlight Oral Care.
On the academic side of Galway University, we have Professor Patrick Lonergan, a member of the Royal Irish Academy, and student Karen Guillory, a former IdeasLab intern.
In addition to the Advisory Board, the university partners with WestBIC to provide aspects of the program.
WestBIC provides entrepreneurs with advanced, tailored support to turn their innovative ideas into commercial reality.
They support CreateHER with mentorship and host events and workshops during the program.
