Suva, Fiji: Today, the U.S. Embassy in Suva hosted a graduation ceremony for the third class of the Academy of Women Entrepreneurship (AWE).
Since 2020, the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs has mentored over 300 Fijian women to establish and scale their businesses. The Women Entrepreneurs Business Council and Makoi Women’s Vocational Center will promote the program through a comprehensive seven-month business skills development course, networking opportunities, and an outdoor marketplace where students can sell products and gain real-world experience. promote.
Marie C. Damour, US Ambassador to Fiji, Kiribati and Tonga, and Ambassador to Nauru and Tuvalu, welcomed the 105 graduates and congratulated them on their completion of the course. In his opening remarks, Damour said:
“The U.S. Embassy is proud to support a thriving Fiji. The Academy for Women Entrepreneurs is one way we do this. , can lead Fiji’s economic growth by providing a network for women.”
The Ambassador also commended the graduates for the time and effort put into the programme, stating:
“You made a commitment to this program, but more importantly, you made a commitment to yourself. We encourage you to use the lessons and connections you’ve learned to grow your business, create jobs, and address the real needs of your community.”
Linda Tabuya, Minister of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, was also present at the ceremony to meet with the graduates and learn first-hand how AWE has helped turn their dreams into viable businesses.
Ambassador Damour concluded the ceremony by acknowledging the contributions of Mr. Hafiz Khan, founder of the Makoy Women’s Vocational Training Center, who passed away in 2022, and Mr. Api Kurshiga, AWE Facilitator.
