Milwaukee unions say mail carriers face violence almost every week. Ron Kania, president of the National Mail Carriers Association, said he had become more dangerous in four months. I don’t understand why the postman is being targeted, but I would like to stop it.
Holidays are the “busy season” for the postal service. It’s the busiest time of the year for mail carriers.
“Working long hours at night or early in the morning is a difficult time,” Kania said.
After the Milwaukee tragedy, work stress became even more difficult. Aundre Cross was shot while delivering mail near 65th and Lancaster.
“When I first heard the news, it was obviously a shock,” Kania said. ‘Complete shock’

Surveillance shows a silver Audi SUV parked. As the man exits, a single gunshot is heard before the SUV drives away.
“It’s difficult. It’s a scary time for a lot of people right now,” Kania said. “Probably every week, every other week, someone is being assaulted or trying to be robbed.”
On November 18, at about 2:00 pm, Milwaukee police said a mailman was robbed at gunpoint near Hoyt and Medford.
A few days later Shorewood at the main post office and another blue USPS drop box just down the street were emptied. Shorewood Police launched an investigation after four people reported him that the check had been tampered with.
At around 3:00 pm on December 7, another postman was robbed at gunpoint in the River West district near Bremen and Auer.
“People are definitely worried,” Kania said. “There is no doubt about it.”
The person delivering the mail needs a little help to keep it safe.

“We care about our customers,” says Kania. “Our customers care about us.”
As of Wednesday, December 14, no arrests have been made in Cross’ murder. A $50,000 reward is offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
