Glasgow, Kentucky (WBKO) – In Glasgow, the phrase “buy local” just got a little easier. Two female entrepreneurs opened their dream store on different floors of the same building within a week.
“I think more is more fun. It feels like there’s a lot going on in Glasgow right now,” says Katie Reece, owner of Sweet Basil Bakeshop & Mercantile.
On the first floor of the building, which you enter from the back, is a takeaway lunch spot recently opened by local caterer Afton Woodward. local route.
“The most popular item is 100% without a doubt the cornbread salad. The chicken salad is a close second,” says Woodward.
With showcase refrigerators filled with fresh produce delivered daily, Woodward caters for catering needs while also offering special menus of the day.
“I was busy with showcase sales every day and worked late to fill up the store for the next day’s sales,” says Woodward. “If things continue as they are. I think I’ll grow out of this small kitchen soon and need a bigger one.”

“I’ve always loved baking, I love entertaining, I love being with people in my community,” Reese said.
This was Reece’s first full week in business and it had to close today, and for good reason.
“We actually sold out of baked goods multiple times yesterday, so we figured it would take us a day to restock today,” says Reece.
Reece’s passion for baking began when she was a little girl in the kitchen with her late grandfather. It’s her love that she now seeks to share with her South Central Kentucky.
“I love being around people, and I want to be able to share that with other people. I want you to feel like you are,” Reese said.

“Glasgow really, really supports local businesses and we can’t thank the community enough,” says Woodward.
