Robinhood’s Twitter account was allegedly hacked on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, according to multiple sources. This account posted a tweet promoting the Binance Smart Chain token listed on the Pancakeswap decentralized exchange. Analyzing the blockchain landscape, Robinhood bought less than $1,000 in tokens before he deleted the tweet.
On-chain analysis reveals limited impact of fraudulent tweets shared by Robinhood’s Twitter account
On Wednesday afternoon, at approximately 12:30 p.m. ET, a Twitter user discuss Robinhood’s verified Twitter account, @robinhood appposted a fraudulent tweet with a gold checkmark. Robinhood has since deleted the tweet, archive.org snapshot Various screenshots shared on Twitter.
The tweet read: It will go live at 12:00 AM ET. It can be purchased first with a starting price of $0.0005. A tweet originating from the @Robinhoodapp account also included a link to the Pancakeswap platform, which lists Binance Smart Chain (BSC) tokens.
“Oh my god,” a Twitter user I have written on Wednesday. “Robinhood’s Twitter account has been hacked. They are posting links for cryptocurrency giveaways. No one is safe in this world,” the individual added. ‘Robinhood’s official Twitter account seems to have been hacked,’ said another account It pointed out on Twitter.
Conor Grogan, a Coinbase employee who tweets about on-chain activity as a hobby murmured about fraud. “Robinhood social his media seems to have been hacked,” an Onchain researcher noted on his Twitter. “He nibbled up to 10 fraudulent tokens before the link was removed,” added Grogan.
So far, I’ve only seen tokens [less than] $1000 purchase. I think the crowds are looking for a thrill as they watch the volume skyrocket.
The @Robinhoodapp Twitter account has not yet tweeted about the issue or confirmed if the account was hacked. The account has a total of 1.1 million followers on social media platforms. This story is a work in progress and may be updated later.
