At just 20 years old, Toronto’s hidden gem Dimi has established himself as a producing prodigy. So far in his career with famous Toronto artists such as Derek Wise, RamRiddlz and Roy Woods, he remixed his latest single “Finesse” to work well with various artists. is ready. Most recently, Dimi released his video for the incredibly cinematic music of a track off the project called “Late at Night” featuring his Anders.
I recently had the opportunity to sit down with Dimi to discuss his self-titled debut project. Dimiin collaboration with Lil Yachty and more:
Q: What is the inspiration behind the album?
A: My biggest inspiration has definitely been my city. Toronto is the inspiration for the album’s sound. Each of the artists involved in the project isn’t from Toronto, but the album has a late-night Toronto vibe.
Q: How did you go about completing the album? What made you choose these particular tracks and artists?
A: Every song has a story, everyone on my album is a close friend of mine and I am a true fan. We made sure all tracks were meaningful and not forced. It took me about a year to fully complete the project because I wanted to make sure it was my strongest piece of work to date before showing my sound to the world.
Q: What was it like collaborating with an international star like Lil Yachty?
A: Working with Yachty was very organic. The first track with Yachty was his final project Lil Boat 3 called Charmin. After that, I kept sending him beatpacks, and I remember him sending Toothache back, so I figured he had to put it on my album right away.
Q: You seem to have two tracks with Anders on the album, how would you classify your relationship with him?
A: Anders and I are very close friends and record almost every week. In Vault he needs more than 100 trucks. Our styles complement each other very well.
Q: What’s next for Dimi? Any new projects in the works?
A: I definitely want to continue building with new artists and diving into new genres and new sounds. I feel like I have a lot more to show the world, and this project was just the beginning.
