Ahs Hip-Hop Wired and CASSIUS join forces to celebrate Hip-Hop’s 50th anniversary this year. This time with a twist, we look back at a pivotal moment in culture. Spirit.Ed is a space to talk about beverages for grown-ups. It focuses on the famous cocktail of the 1990s, the bright and frothy Thug Passion.
Thug Passion can be traced directly to the late Tupac “2Pac” Shakur, featured on the track “Thug Passion” from his 1996 album All Eyez On Me. As the song’s lyrics suggest, this cocktail has a very dedicated, if blasphemous, mission.
From 2Pac’s “Thug Passion”:
eight new drinks
Part Alize, Part Crystal
Thug’s Passion, baby
I decided to omit the intro and the rest of the song as it digresses from there. That said, the Thug Passion isn’t the first Champagne cocktail, it joins other famous cocktails such as the Gin Spike French 75, the Classic Sweetness Champagne Cocktail, and Mimosa’s favorite Trusty Brunch.
For a certain age group, Alizee might have been a primer to stronger booze beyond four-pack wine cooler bottles, tall cans of beer, and other beverages to exercise the liver (I we just figured it out). .
Today, Alize is still a staple in some beer and wine stores and comes in a variety of vibrant flavors. Cristal remains Champagne Maison Louis Roederer’s premier sparkling wine. Due to the high price, we do not recommend using crystals in cocktails unless you are going out for a night out. Any decent bottle of champagne or sparkling white will do.
Given that rappers such as E-40 entered the adult beverage industry after years of woes, you might be wondering how 2Pac fare in the entrepreneurial arena.
