The Letter Carriers union said it was relieved to hear federal indictments had been filed against three Milwaukee residents in connection with the December 9 shooting. Postman Andre Cross.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office announced Thursday afternoon that Kevin McCarter and Charles Daxworth Jr. have been charged with murdering, or assisting in the murder of, a postal worker. He also claims to have fired a weapon during the violent crime. If convicted, the man could face life in prison.
A third, Chanel McCoy, was charged with providing false statements to law enforcement investigating Cross’ murder and concealing knowledge of a felony.

Skowronek says the arrest and indictment should help mail carriers still have their jobs.
“[It] While we are in the business of just serving the American public, they can rest assured that there is no one out there specifically targeting letter carriers. So I’m a little relieved,” Skowronek told WUWM.
Skowronek commends postal inspectors and other law enforcement agencies for their cooperation in this case.

City leaders have vowed to continue working on the issue, including the possibility of increasing state aid.
On Thursday morning, Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers answered questions from WUWM during a meeting with news reporters in Milwaukee.
“In our issue of shared income, we have plans to ensure that some of our shared income is used for public safety purposes. That’s our proposition.That’s our proposition.We’ll see how it plays out.I know Republicans and Democrats are already talking about shared income being a priority. Therefore, there must be a solution here.
Or dozens more sidewalk and church vigils could be held for victims of the Milwaukee murders.
