Analytics firm Jumpshot shuts down
In 2020, analytics firm Jumpshot was shut down by parent company Avast after an important article on data collection and sales practices.
Jumpshot was made famous in the SEO industry by SparkToro founder Rand Fishkin’s (wildly criticized and widely circulated) zero-click analysis and presentation.
According to articles in Vice, PC Mag, and Motherboard, Avast and Jumpshot were “covertly collecting” users’ browsing behavior, packaging it, and reselling it completely without their knowledge.
Fishkin defended the company and accused the publication of incomplete and biased reporting of what he said.
