Milwaukee — The Pulitzer Prize-winning play “Cost of Living” has landed in Milwaukee. It will premiere at the Renaissance Theaterworks this month.
This play is about ordinary people facing a disabled world. It aims to change the way people with disabilities are viewed.
Renaissance Theaterworks specifically hired disabled actors to play roles.

Regan Linton plays one of the play’s main characters. She was a stand-in for the same role on Broadway in New York City. She made history as her fourth actor to appear in a Broadway production while using a wheelchair.
“There are real people with disabilities, characters with disabilities, but the playwrights say they should be played by artists with disabilities, which you don’t see very often,” Linton said.
Linton was paralyzed from the chest down in a car accident while in college.
She was already a trained actor. Initially, she thought her future acting roles would be defined by her chair.After greatly increasing her physical and mental endurance, she took a different path. progressing.

Linton’s stand-in, Sarah Kriger Huang, is also the marketing director for Renaissance Theaterworks. She shares similar life experiences with Linton.
Huang was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at the age of 27. At the time, she never dreamed that she would almost be trapped on a scooter.
Despite her disability, she did not allow her disability to define her.
“My message to people with disabilities and those who suffer in general is that you cannot expect your life to be perfect, nor can you expect your life to be happy all the time. “The point is that we can know there are so many good things in our lives, even if it’s not in the moment.”

Both women took the hand they were given and wore it as a badge of honor, inspiring everyone and pioneers in the industry.
“Again, it’s important not to think of each other as disabled or undisabled. We’re all human beings dealing with different situations,” Linton said.
She said she intends to continue spreading the message by leading by example.
