per athletic, the Panthers interviewed former Denver Broncos head coach Vic Fangio about the position of defensive coordinator. Fangio was fired from Denver after the 2021 season after going 19-30 as head coach. The 64-year-old has been a defensive consultant for the Philadelphia Eagles this season.
Fangio was actually the first defensive coordinator the Panthers ever had, as he was with the franchise from 1995-98. Carolina finished second in his season, going 12-4 and advancing to the NFC Championship game. Fangio has also served as defensive coordinator for the Indianapolis He Colts, Houston He Texans, San Francisco 49ers, and Chicago He Bears.
Fangio led the third-leading defense in the NFL in 2018. This was a unit that allowed him 80 rushing yards per game leading the league. Fangio won the AP NFL Assistant Coach of the Year award and landed the Broncos head coaching job in the offseason.
Former Panthers defensive coordinator Phil Snow was fired after Matt Rule was fired in October. He’s interested in the coaching carousel because he’s reportedly requested permission from Carolina to interview him. per ESPN.
