MILWAUKEE — To mark the holiday, the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum unveiled the first talking bobblehead of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday.
A civil rights leader in a dark suit gives his iconic “I have a dream” speech in front of a podium. Several mics are pointed at him on the podium.
The base of the bobblehead has Dr. King’s name and the date August 28, 1963, the date Dr. King first gave his speech during the March on Washington. Bobbleheads come with audio clips of famous speeches.
Phil Sklar, co-founder and CEO of the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum, said: “Dr. I am excited about.”
Dr. King gave an inspiring speech at the height of the African-American civil rights movement. At the time, the rally was the largest gathering for civil rights. Addressing the nearly 250,000 who attended the March on Washington, he demanded equal rights and opportunities and an end to segregation and discrimination.
When Dr. King gave his speech, he emphasized these dreams.
“I have a dream that one day this country will rise up and realize the true meaning of its creed: ‘We take these truths for granted. All men are created equal.’ about it” .
His inspiring 16-minute speech and action helped pass the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The law prohibited some types of discrimination. In late 1964 he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
Produced by the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum for the estate of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the special edition bobblehead helps honor his work.
Pre-orders are only available through the National Bobblehead website. Each bobblehead is individually numbered, up to 19,630.
