The owner of a Spokane Valley-based tree management service wants to build two new apartment buildings near the intersection of Barker Road and East Appleway Avenue.
Spokane Tree Pro owner Benjamin Stanton has begun the pre-application process for two buildings containing 30 apartments at 18403 E. Bow Ave., just south and west of the intersection of Barker Road and Appleway.
“It’s always been my dream. It’s like aiming for the moon,” Stanton said.
“There were some rentals, but nothing that big.”
The estimated cost of the building is listed at $4.1 million. He emphasized that the project is still in its early stages.
“We hope to start construction this year, depending on how the permitting process goes,” Stanton said. “I’m just after a long-term rental. I hope one day I can pass the building on to my kids.”
Stanton has run the Spokane Tree Pro for eight years, but he said he hopes to diversify with the new apartments.
New Nom Nom Comes to Bigelow Gulch
Building permits were issued Thursday for the proposed Nom Nom convenience store at 8926 E. Bigelow Gulch Road, near the intersection with Argonne Road.
The plan calls for a 4,778-square-foot, 24-foot tall building for the convenience store. The plan also calls for a gas station.
The estimated cost of the project was listed at approximately $1.3 million.
Wolfe Architectural Group designed the building and Baker Construction & Development Company is listed as the contractor. Wolfe Architectural Group’s Idalia Guillen said construction she thought could begin in September.
Pursue storage unit expansion
Retired attorney Jay Rambo filed an application earlier this month to begin the fourth phase of the Wilbur Road Self Storage expansion. This location is on Wilbur Road N. 1710, just south of Interstate 90 and the Pines Interchange.
Rambo said there are plans to build 48 storage units in addition to the 240 currently being built at the site.
“We want to start as soon as we get permission and the ground melts,” said Rambo.
A certificate of occupancy allowing Rambo to rent the new storage unit for Phase 3 was obtained last fall.
“We are new to the storage unit business,” says Rambos. “It’s been good business for the last three or four years.”
New additions include larger units, including 10 x 15 ft and 10 x 30 ft spaces.
“They tend to be our most popular units,” he said.
Meat office building plan
Diamond Construction Co. last week submitted an application to build two new multi-tenant office buildings and parking lots at 12913 N. Raptor Lane, just west of Northwood Middle School, just north of East Farwell Road.
The plan calls for two two-story buildings. One will be 20,138 square feet and the other will be 27,988 square feet. The permit application also requires parking to serve both office buildings.
The combined project cost is estimated at $1.8 million. The project liaison, Tom Riley of Diamond Rock Construction of Spokane Valley, could not be reached for comment.
The project is designed by Spokane architectural firm Bernard Wills.
