PARIS, Wisconsin (AP) — The suspect died after a vehicle chase in southeastern Wisconsin followed by a police-involved shooting, officials said.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Justice’s Criminal Investigation Service, the case began when the Racine County Sheriff’s Deputy launched a chase around 3:30 p.m. Monday.
The vehicle entered Kenosha County and was followed by state troopers and a Kenosha County sheriff’s deputy, investigators said.
The car eventually crashed in the town of Paris, and the driver got out of the car and fled, eventually ending up in a nearby field. Investigators said state police and their agents approached the individual and ordered him to drop the gun the suspect was carrying.
Officers fired their weapons and attacked the suspect, according to Kenosha News.
Investigators said the suspect was taken to a local hospital where he died after first aid was administered at the scene.
A suspect has not yet been identified.
No law enforcement personnel were injured.
The case continues to be investigated by the Criminal Investigative Service and other agencies. The officers involved were placed on administrative duties, it said.
