CHARLOTTE, NC — People across the state who test positive for COVID-19 have free access to telemedicine visits and treatment.
The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services partnered with Charlotte’s health care provider, StarMed, to provide resources.

If a StarMed telemedicine provider determines that a patient qualifies for oral antiviral treatment, the prescription can be sent to the patient’s pharmacy or mail-order pharmacy of choice.
StarMed leadership says the service will help prevent coronavirus patients from having to go to local hospitals.
“People are sick of it. People are still having long-term effects and some are dying from COVID-19. Effectiveness keeps people away from essential hospitals,” said StarMed President Mike Estramonte.
StarMed will bill patients for health insurance if they have it, but no health insurance or North Carolina ID is required.
Estramonte said he hopes the service will remove barriers for people who were unable to access medical care during the pandemic.
“For those who are currently insured or trying to access the pill, it has been a challenge, as throughout the pandemic. I don’t think I knew it, so to be able to get to this stage and determine eligibility in a painless way, it’s very easy, just make an appointment over the phone, ”said Estramonte.
Funding for this program is estimated to last until March.
