Milwaukee — Headaches continue for those traveling on Southwest Airlines.
Travelers at Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport said it had been days and they still hadn’t got their bags.
April Schaeffer is one of those travelers who waited a week for her bag after vacationing in Milwaukee. She’s been using Southwest for her 15 years and she said she’s never had a problem like this.
Her bag is currently in Baltimore and I don’t know when she will return to Milwaukee.
This has been a headache for her and thousands of other Southwestern passengers, but she is grateful to the airport’s patient staff.
“They are amazingly patient,” says Shaefer. “I’ve seen them deal with some terrible people. I feel bad for them. They’re working overtime trying to smooth this over.”
She said she probably won’t check her bag when she travels from now on.
However, traveling light isn’t always easy. Michelle Olson traveled from the East Coast to Milwaukee for her vacation, and as a mother of two, she said it was difficult for her to travel without checking in her luggage.
“When you have two kids and you’re going to a snowy environment that requires snow pants and snow boots, it’s impossible to fit everything in your carry-on,” says Olson.
Olson said that when she arrived in Milwaukee on Christmas, not a single package had arrived. She spent hundreds of dollars to get everything her family needed for the trip.
Olson said the stress of flying caused her to make other travel plans.
“We decided to rent a car and drive back from Wisconsin to Rhode Island because the idea of dealing with the Southwest and the flight here was very unsettling,” she said. Told.
This is a stressful time for many across the country, but Schaefer said a little kindness goes a long way.
“Try to keep the Christmas spirit,” Schaefer said. “I know it’s been hard, but don’t bring it up on other people. If everyone gets along, I think we’ll get through it.”
Southwest Airlines is moving excess luggage to a safe location at Milwaukee Airport and shipping it to customers as needed.
Southwest has set up a page at Southwest.com/traveldisruption for customers to submit refunds and reimbursement requests for meals, hotels, and alternate transportation. It also helps connect customers to their packages.
The carrier said it plans to return to normal operations on Friday.
