Ahead of Pope Francis’ visit, the Vatican’s “technical senior team” was welcomed in Juba, South Sudan. They will be there to assess the preparations for the Pope’s visit, which will take place from February 3rd to 5th.
On Tuesday, Juba’s Metropolitan Archbishop Stephen Ameyu Martin Mulla said nearly 90 percent of the work that was supposed to be done prior to the visit had been completed.
Papal Ambassador to Kenya and South Sudan Bert van Megen explained the purpose of the visit.
“We are here with the Vatican vanguard who will be on site to see how the preparations are being made for the visit of the Pope who will be here for the Ecumenical Pilgrimage with the Archbishop of Canterbury and the moderator of the Church. The visit to Scotland will take place shortly, and in fact in ten days the Pope will arrive here in Juba with the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Master.”
Pope Francis is scheduled to visit the Democratic Republic of the Congo and South Sudan after previously being forced to postpone his visit to July 2022 due to health problems.
He planned to spend two days in South Sudan before returning to the Vatican.
