MILWAUKEE — Northwestern Mutual on Thursday announced plans to move about 2,000 employees from its Franklin location as part of a $500 million campus project.
The decision to move employees to downtown Milwaukee could have a positive impact on surrounding businesses.

Owner Katie Murphy said she is looking forward to having more employees come to the area as a new business in the area.
“With the influx of people, we expect mornings to be a little busier and lunchtime to be a bit more,” Murphy said. doing.”
She said they have a wide range of customers, many of which come from right down the street.
“We get a lot of people from Northwestern Mutual during the summer because it’s within walking distance,” says Murphy. “They can come on their lunch break and have a nice shake and come back and enjoy the nice weather while sipping their shake.”
Other businesses in the area, such as Downtown Kitchen, have also said the move will have a positive impact across the board.

As many workers transitioned to remote work during the pandemic, businesses in the region felt the impact. Luckily, Murphy said it didn’t have to deal with that impact because it opened in April 2022.
“We’re lucky to have opened right after the pandemic,” Murphy said. “We didn’t have to worry about losing customers when we couldn’t get out. We’ve been coming here since we opened.”
Ingrid Hegg is a team member and works closely with many of the customers who come to the store.
She said it feels great to provide people with the nutrition they need to start working.
She’s looking forward to having more customers and looking forward to providing them with healthier options to have at their fingertips throughout the day.
“I think lunchtime here is going to be rough, which is great for us,” says Hegg. “Early in the summer when we can have a shake or tea before work instead of running coffee. .”
Murphy said they are here to continue to prepare for what is to come and to serve the rest of the community as well.
“We want to spread love and light to the people who walk in our doors so they can spread it around the city,” she said. It’s also a quick, easy way to serve healthy, nutritious meals.”
As they prepare, they say the main goal is to help the community be healthy and happy.
