Coordinators are gearing up to host over 35 local vendors in downtown Stockton for our second Small Business Sunday event on February 19th.
Stockton, CA — A new event in Stockton aims to bring positive action downtown while combining local pride and support for small businesses.
For Stockton native Alexis Jones, the event’s primary coordinator, ‘Small Business Sunday’ is about more than sales.
“If you’re a small business and are interested in allowing the community to meet you as a creator and see your work, we want to create a space that allows you to do that.” I don’t have any artistic talent, but to help create a hub where people can share that talented people have the skills and abilities to show the community, that’s all I want to do.”
For five hours, 35 vendors set up shop at 235 San Joaquin St. to sell, network and meet people in the community. Especially after the pandemic, it was an opportunity for Jones to realize that Stockton was missing.
“I think it’s very important to invite the younger generation in particular to be part of the community,” Jones said. , it’s okay to say hello to someone.”
Jones says he got inspiration for attending the event from members of the community and from partners who run small jewelry businesses.
“Seeing her hustle and grind while working a full-time job and still wanting the community to see her, see her work, and be inspired .. make way, make time.” You can do it — seeing that made me want to recreate the space,” Jones said. I needed it.”
After weeks of preparation for the launch of the monthly Small Business Showcase, the conference room was buzzing with activity and information exchange on January 15, when Jones held his first event.
“It was more than just excitement. The smiles, the business card exchanges, the Instagrams after watching the vendors get were like little wins for me too,” Jones said. I received some custom requests from people I never met because they lived in different cities or never met on social media, but when they came to the event they met each other and connected. built..”
The first event is reflected in the rearview mirror and preparations for the next event are already in full swing. Jones wants the event to be a downtown staple every month.
“My partner actually saw someone he hadn’t seen since middle school in Sacramento, California. It all happened under the roof of this beautiful building in downtown Stockton,” Jones said. He said, “If you want to experience and return to life and take baby steps, come to one of our events and I am sure you will enjoy it.”
Jones is currently looking for vendors for the next Small Business Sundays event scheduled for February 19th.
