Startup Sioux Falls is piloting an expanded training program for entrepreneurs thanks to a $1 million grant from the US Small Business Administration.
A nonprofit organization based in Sioux Falls, the nonprofit says it empowers founders and start-ups by providing resources to help network, launch and grow their ventures.
Jamie Wood, South Dakota District Director of the Small Business Administration, said the funding will support the CO.STARTERS business accelerator program. This is his ten-week course, free of charge, designed for people of color, rural residents, and underserved market people.
According to the Startup Sioux Falls website, entrepreneurs and other professionals share their knowledge and help students turn their dreams into sustainable businesses.
The pilot program is running from 2021.
Wood said it’s making a difference, especially in diverse and underserved communities across the state.
“We are ready to graduate from the first cohort that was entirely Spanish, and we have also graduated from a new cohort of Americans,” Wood said. And in the end all the participants gave a business pitch in English, which was very difficult, because they want to come here, they want to be in our state, and they want to make the state even better. I would like to help.”
This program is part of the larger American Rescue Plan initiative.
