US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced Wednesday that it has secured $3 million in end-of-year omnibus packages to build the Universal Hip Hop Museum. Breaking ground in the South Bronx in May 2021, the project is scheduled to open in 2024.

Located in the borough that gave birth to the musical genre, the museum preserves the genre’s deep musical history and explores the five elements of hip-hop culture: host, DJ, breakdance, graffiti art and knowledge.
Omnibus has passed Congress and is expected to be signed into law later this week.
Hip-hop has grown to become one of the most influential music genres in the world. Hopefully, when the museum is completed, it will have a place to visit so that people from all over the world can learn about the evolution of our culture.
