Cliff Oxford is a serial entrepreneur and educational pioneer with decades of experience growing businesses and helping leaders develop plans for success. Today, he joins host Lee Heisman on his The Roadmap on ASBN to tell his story and share insights on management and strategy.
After ten years as Regional Vice President of Technology at UPS, Mr. Oxford launched STI Knowledge, one of the first outsourcing and enterprise support platforms. He spent nearly a decade leading a new company offering his expertise in customer relationship management, but after seeing a beta of Salesforce and realizing his business could not compete, he turned his brand on. decided to sell.
After selling the company, Oxford worked as an educator at Emory. Finding it odd that his school didn’t actually encourage his leaders to educate their students about the business he taught, he was inspired to create his own version that did just that. , founded the Oxford Center for Entrepreneurs. This organization brought together business leaders, subject matter experts, and academics to teach students the principles for professional success. One of the key areas of research was how to create a successful exit strategy that maximizes benefits for both staff and management. But after a decade at the helm, he decided to sell the center to his Forbes, hoping the media company could expand to a wider platform.
His next trip was with Porsche, a luxury car company. The well-known automotive brand sought his advice on how to work with its key consumer entrepreneurs. Through his network and his knowledge of how successful people think, Oxford has been able to bring in business leaders from multiple industries for employers.
Oxford’s current project is CliffCo. It is an international think tank that seeks to develop the professional careers of its members by focusing on their technical competencies, interpersonal skills, and emotional regulation. However, he is pleased that this new platform will be renamed his ThinkOxford, as many of his students and colleagues still refer to the name of the original center. He hopes that his students, old and new, will continue to learn how to manage themselves, which will help them manage their businesses.
