KENOSHA, Wisconsin (AP) – In his second trial Wednesday, a jury found a Wisconsin man guilty of smothering his wife to death with antifreeze in 1998.
A verdict of first-degree manslaughter against Mark Jensen was announced in a Kenosha County courthouse.
Jensen, 63, was convicted of murdering Julie Jensen in her Pleasant Prairie home in 2008.
Prosecutors alleged that he began poisoning her with antifreeze in December 1998, gave her sleeping pills, and then suffocated her to death over the course of three days.
Jensen has pleaded not guilty, and lawyers allege that Julie Jensen was depressed and committed suicide after framing her husband.
He was then sentenced to life in prison without parole, but after the Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled Jensen deserved a new trial, a Kenosha County judge announced Jensen’s first conviction in April 2021. has been canceled. A court ruled that a letter written by his wife to convict him if something happened to her could not be used by the prosecution.
Jensen is scheduled to be sentenced on April 14.
