Borussia Dortmund striker Sebastian Haller made his comeback after being sidelined with cancer by coming on as a second-half substitute in Tuesday’s friendly against Fortuna Düsseldorf in Spain.
As hundreds of spectators applauded, the 28-year-old replaced teen sensation Youssoufa Mowkoko for the final 15 minutes.
“Finally, it’s been six months. It’s been six months and, like I said, I was really looking forward to playing. This feeling has been lacking in the last few months, so I’m really looking forward to the end of the season.” For the rest of the time, I just want to be on the pitch right now, ‘playing as much time as possible and staying in shape to be able to do that,’ Haller said after the game.
Haller resumed training with the Dortmund team at the Marbella camp last week.
The Ivory Coast international underwent chemotherapy after being diagnosed with a malignant tumor in July, just days after joining the Bundesliga from Ajax.
Dortmund are gearing up for the second half of the season, with a friendly against Basel on Friday.
Haller could make his competitive debut for BVB when Augsburg visit Signal Iduna Park on 22 January.
