San Antonio – The busy holiday season continues at Sara’s Barbacoa Restaurant on De Zavala Road near Babcock Road on the northwest side.
Sara Hernandez, CEO of Sara’s Barbacoa, said:
When Hernandez was just 15 years old, he decided to start this business to bring the feel of home to this side of town.
“We put a lot of care and love into it. We want to show that food and voice can be spread like love,” Hernandez said.
This restaurant opened in March 2019.
Hernandez, now 19, is CEO of her restaurant Sarah’s Barbacoa.
Hernandez’s sister, Rebecca, is 23 and is the CFO.
“So barbacoa cooks for about 13 to 14 hours overnight, which is how long it takes to cook and cook to perfection,” said Rebecca Hernandez.
Sarah Hernandez says working with family is something special, and although it’s been a rollercoaster ride since opening, she’s glad she did it.
“Sometimes things don’t sell and other times they all sell out, but this is an interesting life. It’s an experience,” Hernandez said.
Hernandez has a message for other teens who dream big.
“Believe in yourself, of course, and let your dreams go far. With family, friends, and people you trust, you can make your dreams come true,” says Hernandez.
