Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Russell Gage was off the backboard in Monday’s playoff game against the Dallas Cowboys after suffering a horrific injury late in the game. He was taken to a local hospital to be evaluated for a concussion and an injury to his neck.
Cowboys safety Donovan Wilson touched Gage’s head after an incomplete pass late in the fourth quarter. Gage fell backwards after the pass and Wilson hit him from behind and snapped Gage’s head forward. He was already working on a tackle when Gage went down.
Gage appeared to try to get up from the hit, but couldn’t. Players from both teams surrounded Gage while medical trainers tended to him. Moments later, the trainer puts Gage on the backboard and finally puts him on a cart and off the field.
After Gage left the field on Monday, play resumed with a 31-14 Cowboys win.
