New Jersey is known for innovation and ideas. So it’s no surprise that two Garden State students placed first and second at their local level at the Global Student Entrepreneur Awards, which is sponsored by event sponsor her Withum.
GSEA is an annual global competition featured in the recent Disney+ documentary “Own the Room.” Six of his finalist student entrepreneurs competed for a chance to win $7,500. I also gained business guidance and other resources from members of the New Jersey Chapter of the Entrepreneurship Organization.
This year’s winner is Harrison Nastasi, founder of Bobica Bars. Freshmen at Rowan University created the world’s first superfood-crusted granola bars to provide a gluten-free, dairy-free and vegan yet nutritious and healthy grab-and-go snack. Nastasi will represent Garden State in the North American GSEA competition and if successful there will enter a global competition with young entrepreneurs from around the world.
Runner-up was New Jersey Tech sophomore Sanya Majmudar, who founded Medical Wonders, a non-profit organization dedicated to educating and advising medical students around the world about medical procedures, careers, discoveries, and devices. A young entrepreneur, he launched his Medical Wonders while still in high school and now he manages over 300 volunteers around the world. Majmudar received a prize of $500.

“Being part of the GSEA and being the first to join means the world to me,” said Nastasi. “I have met many like-minded entrepreneurs. The competition has been a great experience so far and I am excited to see how far we can go.”
GSEA is the premier award program for students who own or operate a business while attending college. Unlike pitch competitions, the GSEA focuses on identifying students who demonstrate entrepreneurial tenacity. Other student entrepreneur finalists who participated in the GSEA NJ competition are: Nicoletta Ciccia (Centenary College) — Founder of Nic’s Wicks, custom soy her wax candles containing dried herbs, flowers, crystals and stones. Diana Rosado (Stevens Institute of Technology) — Founder of Imagication, a company dedicated to expanding access to college tours through virtual animation technology. Alex Simeon (Rutgers University) — Founder of MoneyUP. A fintech app to put a college student and her Gen Z in control of their financial future. Bryant Truong (Stevens Institute of Technology) — Founder of Errant LLC, an e-commerce business that sells hard-to-find products.
Withum, a leading advisory and chartered accounting firm, was the principal event sponsor for this year’s GSEA NJ competition.
